Behind the unremarkable front door of a renovated historic building, a long passageway leads to a paved courtyard, shaded on one side by a large tree and bordered on the other by a one-story rear building. In this L-shaped factory building, a wide double door opens onto a room with white walls and a dark floor. This is the exhibition space where you, the reader of these lines, currently find yourself.

    Luise Lutz and Michel Strümpf do not view this exhibition space as a visual framework, but approach it from a sculptural perspective. With the installation – es würde so – the exhibition space itself becomes a sculpture. Work processes taking place on and within the space, which usually remain invisible to viewers, are deliberately staged. Time seems to stand still for a moment in the exhibition space. It remains unclear whether the gestures and objects on display refer to processes that have already been completed or are still in the making. In the process, a distinct sense of time unfolds within the space, in which traces of a possible past and future materialise and accumulate.
